Ferreira Ruby is a classic Port wine, a young and attractive wine, with the genuine flavor of the best wines produced in the Douro region, with the care and knowledge accumulated over more than 250 years of excellence that make Ferreira the oldest and most celebrated Portuguese Port wine brand in the world.
The grapes, handpicked, were vinified according to the traditional method of Port wine. After gentle crushing with partial destemming, alcoholic fermentation with maceration follows, allowing for the maximum extraction possible from the skins. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature and is stopped by the addition of grape brandy at the moment considered ideal by the winemaker, taking into account the grape varieties, degree of ripeness, and desired sweetness. The final balance between the body and aroma of the Port wine comes from the combination of the different characteristics of the multiple grape varieties used.
The wine stays in the Douro region where the winter cold helps settle the lees. In the following spring, after clarification, it is transported to the Ferreira cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia and placed in oak barrels where it will age for several years, acquiring the incomparable style of the Ferreira brand. During aging, the wines are carefully monitored and tasted by the winemaking team, who blend them until achieving the final blend with the characteristics and style of Ferreira. The final blend has an average age of about 3 years.
