A vineyard was celebrating its 80th year, showing several flaws derived from partial abandonment over the years. Located in an area of intense exposure with enormous outcrops of shale on the surface where not a single blade of grass survives. The people of the Quinta quickly nicknamed it “The Abandoned Vineyard”. For years, they tried to restore the vineyard and replant the missing vines. Until they gave up. Despite all the care, only the older vines were capable of surviving under such extreme conditions.
In 2004, they decided to isolate it for the first time in the cellar of Quinta da Gaivosa. It immediately revealed a unique personality and character. They decided to bottle it in homage to the equally unique old vineyards of the Douro, which will one day disappear.
Today we celebrate!
